ENNEREG E-Bulletin September 2012Welcome to the ENNEREG e-Bulletin for September 2012. This second e-Bulletin provides information on the forthcoming ENNEREG conference in Bilbao, Spain as well as presentations from past events, including our recent conference in Poznan. It also launches the first version of the Regions 202020 Inspiration Guide, provides details of ENNEREG Replication Events and activities, including in the ENNEREG Twin Regions, as well as an update of actions in ENNEREG Pioneer Regions. Finally, it summarises 14 new ENNEREG Good Practice Case studies, added to the website since the first ENNEREG e-Bulletin was published in December 2011.

Inspiring Twinning and Replication

The first version of the Regions 202020 Inspiration Guide is now available on this website. The guide aims to give you an overview of how to change your region into a Sustainable Energy Region that helps to ensure long term benefits for your Region, its stakeholders and citizens.

Since the last ENNEREG e-Bulletin, ENNEREG has been using experience gained developing Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs) in the Pioneer Regions to encourage replication in Twin and other regions throughout Europe. The ENNEREG Pioneer Regions have been working with their Twin Regions, some of which have created regional profiles on the Regions 202020 website, including details of their Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs) and ENNEREG twinning activities.  Twin Regions include:

Energy Days caravan travels through the Basque Country, Spain

Energy Days 2012 Image copyright Basque Energy Agency, EVEAfter the European Sustainable Energy Week, the Energy Days caravan travelled through the Basque Country, Spain. The caravan was installed in a central square in each of the locations and it included bicycles, electric and hybrid cars, interactive information points and inflatable bicycle and car circuits.

Madeira's Commitment to reduce 20% of Carbon Dioxide Emissions by 2020

Wind turbines in Madeira, PortugalThe promotion of renewable energies and energy efficiency is a major element of the regional policy of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, defined in the Regional Energy Policy Plan of 2002.
    This article presents how Madeira's commitment to reducing 20% of CO2 emissions by 2020 is focussed through three European initiatives: the Pact of Islands (ISLE-PACT), the Covenant of Mayors (CoM), and the ENNEREG Project.

Silistra, Bulgaria plans to install CHP on waste agricultural and wood biomass

Principle scheme of the planned installationSilistra Municipality, Bulgaria, in the framework of the ENNEREG project, has initiated and included in its Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP) a project for construction of an energy complex for CHP on biomass.
    The main aim of the project is to produce heat and electricity at 85% efficiency, while at the same time making use of available wood and agricultural waste potential in the region.

Intelligent Energy Education in Wales, UK

Young Energy People! (YEP!) project, Wales, UKSevern Wye Energy Agency (SWEA) has embarked on an exciting project with a school in Llanidloes, Powys, Wales, UK.  The Young Energy People! (YEP!) project has already been implemented in 29 schools in Gloucestershire and the recipient of a 2011 Ashden Award for Sustainable Energy.

As part of the ENNEREG project activities on Cooperation in Intelligent Energy Education, SWEA has also produced two reports on Communicating Intelligent Energy using Entertainment and Teaching Eco-driving.
