Famille à énergie positive, Rhône-Alpes, France - ENNEREG Good practice in Intelligent Energy Education
The challenge "Familles à énergie positive" aims to demonstrate that together we can fight effectively against the emission of greenhouse gas emissions by participating in a concrete, measurable, and friendly approach. It is already possible to register for the next competition 2011-2012. This competition, lead by ALE of the Lyon and its suburbs and AGEDEN will try to gather more participants for more energy savings!
Summary
[EN - English] | Website
For its third edition, the challenge Familles à énergie positive© (Families with Positive Energy) continues to demonstrate that it is possible to participate in a concrete, measurable, and easy way to struggle against the emission of greenhouse gases.
The principle is simple: teams of a dozen homes are grouped to represent their village or neighborhood and the challenge is to save as much energy as possible on consumption at home: heating, hot water, domestic equipment.
Each team made a bet to reach at least 9% energy savings - Kyoto Protocol obliges! - over the winter preceding the competition. The contest is based on the overall progress of the behavior of competitors: no matter where we start, the key is to move forward together!

Results and Impacts
Project outcomes in terms of ENNEREG’s performance indicators
Start Date: 1 November 2011
End Date: 31 March 2012
The results of the first test were convincing: on average, participants have saved € 200 on their bill! "Small streams make big rivers,"
The proof: 738 000 kWh have been saved by the 314 participating households in the first two editions and 213 tons of CO2, equivalent to the production of a photovoltaic plant over the same period ... Since 2008, more than 3000 participants took up the challenge and saved more than 3 million kWh.
Role of each participants
- Make a weekly report of its consumption. This will allow the participants to follow live the evolution of its energy consumption compared to the previous year. These developments are climate corrected by the administrators.
- Participate in team meetings. The idea is that families find themselves in a friendly meeting once a month to share their tips and tricks to save energy.
- Implement actions to save energy every day. To do this, the each family can find support in the guide “100 eco-gestures” which they receive at the beginning of the contest, as well as on the experiences of other families in their team!
- Make at least 8% energy savings over the period of the challenge. The goal is to exceed the family goals of the Kyoto Protocol. Last year, families exceeded the target and each saved an average of 17% over the previous year.
- Win the contest with its team!
News from 2011
This year:
- 17 French territories and 16 European territories will participate in the same challenge
- New mini challenges (for those who wish to go further) on use of water, transport and eco-consumption
How this Action could be Replicated
Success factors:
- A good campaign of advertising: Inform the greatest number of people
- Show that there is a real need to change the behaviour
- and that it can be done in a fun way
Barriers:
- The difficulties of introducing new behaviour
