In one year, citizens of the island of Syros in Greece have received water that corresponds to 246.000 plastic bottles. Those bottles would have ended up in the island's landfill and would take 500 years to decompose. The production of 246.000 fewer plastic bottles corresponds to 22,14 tones CO2 emissions savings. Due to the fact that the island would otherwise need to transport water with boats, the cost saving for this transportation was 8-10 euro/m³.
