Urban Waste for Energy from Biomass
Seminar and Study Visit

The mission was a study visit and seminars regarding Urban waste for energy from biomass:

• Urban biological waste as a basis for biogas and biofuel production
• Separate collection and treatment of bio waste aimed at energy exploitation and organic matter recovery
• CHP plant for district heating using mainly urban waste for heat and electricity production

Seminars/presentations combined with study visits to (see detailed agenda in presentation)

• Sundet Biogas Plant
• Visit to the Småland Glass museum (evening activity)
• Ljungby Energi AB CHP plant
• District heating system from wood fuels, Alvesta Energi AB in Moheda, Biomass terminal, Neova
• Low energy and passive wooden houses at Välle Broar
• Visit to the central CHP plant Sandvik II in Växjö

The study visits and seminars in the Växjö area addressed municipality leaders, decision makers, energy experts and experts in local governments from the Tartu region in Estonia which is the ENNEREG Twin Region, twinned with ENNEREG Pioneer Region, Blekinge as part of the ENNEREG project replication activities. 

Organisations/stakeholders from the Tartu region involved in the event, included:

• Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications
• Tartu Science Park
• Tartu of City Vice Mayor
• Building consultant in City of Tartu
• Head of Dalkia (which is one of the biggest heating power plant in Estonia)
• Specialist in Dalkia
• Estonian environmental investment centre

The result and outcome of this mission were mostly inspirational. The many study visits can give usable inputs for the twin region.

The contact between ESS/Blekinge and Tartu region will continue during the lifetime of ENNEREG and hopefully fruitful and long term collaborations will have been established by the end of the project.
