The sea is a great store of resources from which humankind has drawn abundantly over the centuries. Today, marine energy is beginning to be seen as a viable alternative for supplying renewable energy thanks to the great energy potential contained in waves, wind, currents and other forms of storage. But the marine environment is a difficult one to work in. It is a challenge that offers an opportunity for companies that can make their technologies operate efficiently to obtain energy at a competitive price. The Fourth Symposium on Marine Energy in Bilbao is by now a consolidated event, showcasing the year's advances in the industry, and involving all the leading companies in the marine energy area. Offshore wind energy and wave energy, will be two main themes of the 2011 symposium. Organised by Ente Vasco de la Energía and Corporación Tecnalia, it will be held in the Bilbao Exhibition Centre as part of SINAVAL 2011, the international professional trade fair of the shipbuilding, port and fishing industry at which marine energy will play a central role.

Venue: Barakaldo, Bilbao Exhibition Centre, Bilbao, Spain
