With more than 4000 signatories, the Covenant of Mayors proves that cities are key actors in meeting and exceeding the European Union CO2 reduction target of 20% by 2020.
This event, jointly organized by Climate Alliance, Energy Cities, Fedarene and ICLEI Europe, explored local climate and energy action, financing, communication, support for municipalities and the Covenant of Mayors - and the link to the green economy agenda discussed at RIO+20.
The IEE co-funded projects Energy for Mayors and Covenant capaCITY presented their support options to local governments and their partners. The event will explore effective multi-level governance and the role of Covenant of Mayors, also Coordinators & Supporters. Further, it focused on current EU funding mechanisms and future prospects for financing sustainable energy, and finally demonstrate the importance of mobilizing stakeholders.

In his presentation "Coherence between regional and local sustainable energy action plans", ENNEREG Project partner, Álvaro Pérez de Laborda, EVE, Basque Country (Spain), summarised experience on the development of sustainable energy action plans at regional level, including experience from the ENNEREG project.
