With more than 4000 signatories, the Covenant of Mayors proves that cities are key actors in meeting and exceeding the European Union CO2 reduction target of 20% by 2020.

This event, jointly organized by Climate Alliance, Energy Cities, Fedarene and ICLEI Europe, explored local climate and energy action, financing, communication, support for municipalities and the Covenant of Mayors - and the link to the green economy agenda discussed at RIO+20.

The IEE co-funded projects Energy for Mayors and ENERGY for Mayors logoCovenant capaCITY presented their support options to local governments and their partners. The event will explore effective multi-level governance and the role of Covenant of Mayors, also Coordinators & Supporters. Further, it focused on current EU funding mechanisms and future prospects for financing sustainable energy, and finally demonstrate the importance of mobilizing stakeholders.
