The ENESCOM project is approaching the “finish line” (November 2012) and everything seems to have taken place according to its plans. In the next months, ENESCOM will complete the writing of the Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs) for the municipalities that joined the Covenant of Mayors and will complete the complementary activities. But there are also some unexpected and pleasant surprises.
In Malta, the presence of the Local Councils' Association stand at the 2012 Malta Trade Fair resulted in excellent dissemination of information about the project and its main topics. The ENESCOM team was honoured to receive a visit from the Malta Prime Minister Dr. Lawrence Gonzi, who expressed great appreciation for the work done in the field of energy so far, and the action in support of the Covenant of Mayors.

The educational activities developed for the benefit of young people in every country enjoyed great success. Just to mention some of them:
- those organized in Poland by the Association "The Center for Education and Enterprise Support" with the help of the ENESCOM staff;
- the bike ride that KEK Foundation organized in Hungary, when nearly 100 students enjoyed a sustainable mobility trip to the Hungarospa spa complex where they relaxed and learned about the renewable energy plant that the spa uses.
Italian Mayors inspired to join Covenant of Mayors

ENESCOM staff joined the EnercitEE project team (http://enercitee.eu/) in a training tour for Mayors from Italy to the Swedish town on Växjö. This activity enabled them to experience once again some of the training techniques already used in Italy by the ENESCOM staff to bring the Mayors to high levels of environmental awareness.
During the trip, a short documentary* was produced and, as shown below, it’s now available on YouTube (as Italian version, the international version will be available soon). This documentary sees the extraordinary contribution of the Italian Nobel Laureate, Mr. Dario Fo, who kindly agreed to be one of the motivators of the trip through a personal video message.
As a result, six new Italian Mayors are now probably on the way to join the Covenant of Mayors...
*The card game that the Mayors play on the documentary will be available on
the ENESCOM website by the end of November 2012.
ENESCOM Results
To sum up, with 70 new municipalities becoming signatoires of the Covenant of Mayors, despite all the difficulties of the present economic situation in Europe, the ENESCOM partners feel quite satisfied with their efforts, even if they know that this is just the beginning.
For the municipalities ENESCOM has helped up to now, the real challenge begins with the SEAP implementation activities. ENESCOM wishes these communities the best of luck and determination because here is where the fun begins!
